Today is recovery day after a whirlwind of a day yesterday. Monday was Bobby Bowden's annual trip to Atlanta as part of his booster golf tour. The golf tournament and dinner are put on by the Atlanta Seminole Club of which Mauri and I are members.
Although Mauri and I were not organizers, we were volunteers for the event. That meant an early wake-up call Monday morning at 5:30am!!! That was after we got to bed at 1am... just a few hours earlier. We had to be all the way up in Alpharetta by 7am to help out. From 7-8 we helped set up all the tables and get the food/beverages ready for the golfers. By 9 Mauri and I were out on the course on hole lucky 13 which was the 'Pay It Forward' hole. On this hole the golfers had the option to pay $5/golfer to move from the men's to the women's tees. That was a savings of 44 yards! While the first two groups did not take us up on the offer, it was painfully obvious that the rest of the groups would need to. :-) In all Mauri and I made $165! The above picture was snapped by Mauri from a distance as Coach Bowden played through on our hole. I explained to Coach Bowden that although everyone had to pay $5 to move up that if you had a stained glass mural greater than 20'x20' or a large bronze statue in your honor that you could tee up from wherever you wanted! He got a good chuckle out of that.
The weather was a huge issue over the weekend and we were concerned that the rain would not end in time. My forecast called for most of the rain to end by 7-8am and that is exactly what happened! The organizers had passed along my forecasts to coach Bowden as I warned that even though the rain would most likely be gone that the breezy conditions might make it feel pretty cool. Coach dressed appropriately thus avoiding getting pneumonia! So in a way, I saved Coach Bowden's life!!
After the golf we ate a little lunch and then went to our hotel room we booked to rest for a few hours before getting ready for the banquet. The room was the best $$$ I have spent to avoid having to drive back into the city and then back to Alpharetta. Shoot, the hotel might have paid for itself in saved gas $$$.
The banquet was good. We got our pictures taken with coach and enjoyed some cocktails. He was his very charming and charismatic self when he spoke following dinner. Former player, Nick Maddox, introduced coach and did a fantastic job as he talked about Coach Bowden having a huge impact on his life.
After the event we helped clean up and then sat with the organizers and chatted. Mauri and I have made some great friends through the Atlanta Seminole Club. We look forward to our socials every month.
I would be remiss if I did not thank Mauri for helping out and caring so much about something that I love. I also need to thank her for being a sport when I introduced her to a golfer as being my wife and working in the adult entertainment industry. :-)
