Well, it looks like Little Rock is a 'no-go.' I got a call from them yesterday with an offer... if that is what you want to call it. They were only $37K off what I was expecting!!!
Even worse, the news director, a stupid Gator, said that he really went to bat for me to get me the offer of the job. It might not sound bad reading it in the blog, but trust me... when you heard him on the phone, it sounded like he was doing me a favor and that he picked me against the wisdom of others (sounded like my boss in Macon). Like I was lucky to get the offer.
I was pretty speechless about it and told him I would have to think about it after talking to my wife. I did mention that their sister station in Tulsa (same market size) had offered what I was expecting for this job not but 2 months ago!!! He denied it was possible, but I know as I have the e-mails to prove it. Maybe the LR ND is lying to me or perhaps corporate is lying to him. Who knows.
Anyway, I have until Monday to decide although I already know my decision. I will probably call them this afternoon and make it official. I guess they could always come back and match what I want, but it is doubtful with that gap. Mauri and I decided that if we were going to move out there it was so I could make enough $$ that she could stay at home for a few years if we had a kid. Moving far from family was not exciting to us, but the job was a good opportunity if the money was where it should have been.
So, assuming the offer does not improve dramatically we are back to square one. I am not against getting back into TV for the perfect job, but I am going to try my hand at something else. Maybe accounting or financial planning (I know, good timing... I am open to other ideas)... something to keep us in Atlanta). I will continue to do CNN for fun as long as they will have me and to keep my foot in the TV door, but I think it is time to move on.
I will keep you posted!
