taking it too far...

When does a sports rivalry go too far? I am not sure, but it might start when you dread wearing $90 shirts because they have a logo that reminds you of your rival team's mascot!

For me that dreaded brand... izod.

I have not had an izod shirt since I was a kid. My Grandma bought us grandkids lots of the shirts, but that was before I knew how evil and terrible Gators were. Heck, until I got a shirt a couple years ago I did not even know they still existed.

The shirts (minus the logo) are great. They fit well and Mauri says they do not make me look fat! ;-) However, every time I put one on I think about how much the Gator's suck. You know, kinda like when you see a Gator bumper sticker or license plate you have the sudden urge to nudge them off the road?!

You might have noticed that our Christmas card featured an izod shirt. Technically the shirt is garnet (my wife says its red) although I figured it passed as red enough for Christmas. When designing the card I tried my best to crop it to get the logo off the shirt. In the end you could still see a small part of it. I sent the cards hoping no one would notice the gator. What did my friend, James, says right off the bat... 'what's that gator doing on your shirt?!?!?'

I had no answer. I could only stutter and stammer in shame.

My mother-in-law gave me a polo shirt for my birthday. What color was it? Gator blue!!!! The fix for this travesty was easy.... we took the shirts back and got non-Gator colors. But what is one to do when every color and style has a freakin Gator on it!?!?!?

I do not know what to do. Can I have an alterations place remove the logo? Do I banish them to the back of the closet? Do I continue to wear them as I would a badge of shame or a scarlet letter?

These are the things a college football fan thinks about. I might have a problem, but that problem is not my hatred for all things Gators. Its the fact that I will miss the spring game this year because I will be at the Bahamas Weather Conference.

Go Noles!
