As you may know, my cousin Meredith got married last weekend. It was an absolutely beautiful wedding and fun was has by all! You can access the pix on the right side of the page.
Other than the wonderful wedding, we were able to do some fun things in Chicago. Henry, Hannah, Mom, Chris and I took the architectural tour on Saturday. If you ever find yourself in Chicago, I highly rec. this tour. During the 1.5 hour boat tour you get to see and hear about some of the beautiful buildings that make up the skyline. After the tour we spent the afternoon walking around and taking it all in. Of course we attended the wedding that evening. Everything from the bride to the food was absolute perfection!! In fact, if you check out Hannah's pix here..... you will see that we all enjoyed ourselves a little too much!!
On Sunday Chris and I took in a Cubs game. Although I have visited Chicago many times, I have never been to Wrigley Field. It was so much fun to see "old school" baseball. It is entirely different from watching the Braves. Before and after the game we hung out in Wrigleyville at some to the bars. Sunday evening was pretty quiet for us. Chris was dying for deep dish pizza so we waited 2 hours to have some. It was certainly worth the wait!!
On Monday we headed to the Field Museum to take in the Natural Diasters exhibit. It was awesome!! After that we took a nice walk along the lake back to our hotel to head back south.
We arrived at the airport, after a couple of train rides, with time to spare. Little did we know that we would spend MANY more hours in Chicago. Here's the rundown of what happened.....our plane was late arriving from it's last flight. The flight attendants were very anxious to get us all boarded. They kept saying "We have to board quickly so that we can get out before this bad weather arrives". After looking at the radar, Chris pointed out to me that there was no way we were beating the weather. Guess who was right?!?!?!
Anyway, they loaded us all on the plane and we sit and sit and sit. The pilot then tells us that we can't take off b/c they had to evacuate air traffic control b/c of tornadoes. He informs us to be patient and we will soon be in the air. Next thing we know the wind is REALLY strong (shaking the plane), there is lightning and the rain is horizontal!!! Then come the tornado sirens. At this point the pilot informs us that there is a tornado warning and we should all deplane IMMEDIATELY. He says that there is not time to get luggage, just deplane. So, guess what all of the inconsiderate idiots in front of us do.....yep, they take the time to open the bins and get their carry ons. Further proof of how much I HATE the concept of carry on luggage. Meanwhile, the plane is shaking and I am beginning to freak out!!! At one point I even reprimanded all of these people, much to Chris' horror!! Well, we finally made it off of the plane and waited out the weather inside. Then they put us back on the plane and we sat, sat, sat. Then we headed for the runway where we sat, sat, sat, sat. We sat for about 2 hours and guess who needed to use the potty?!?!? After sitting for a while, we were informed that we were next in line to take off. That was super except for the tiny detail of being out of fuel at this point!!! Back to the airport for more fuel. Then we finally took off. We landed in Atlanta @ 2:30 am. Where we had to walk all the way through the airport b/c the concourse trains weren't working!! Walking a couple of miles at that point was just icing!! Then we got our luggage and took a $40 cab ride home b/c Marta stops running at 1:00am. I don't think that I ever been so happy to be home. I was able to get in bed by 3:45 and make to work that morning by 8:30. Fun times!!!
Other than the terrible trip home, we had a perfect weekend and loved our trip to Chicago. Thanks Jones family for being such wonderful hosts!!
