'Big' city or 'Little' Rock...

Well, I got a call yesterday about a job in Little Rock. Yes, Little Rock, Arkansas. I have an interview on Tuesday the 25th for the chief meteorologist position at the Fox affiliate.

I am not sure how I feel about it. If I stayed in TV my goal was always to be a chief in a medium market (Little Rock is market 56, Atlanta is 8, and Macon is 121). I guess I had always hoped it would be closer to home like Mobile or Jacksonville as Little Rock is like 11-12 hours from Tallahassee, the in-laws, and the beach. :-( That's far. It is also expensive to fly to/from. I checked for flights to various places like Atlanta, Tallahassee, Panama City and not one was under $300!!!! Please come to Little Rock, Airtran!!! Hell, for my interview they have me flying from Atlanta to Dallas and then Dallas to Little Rock!!!!

On the other hand, the pay will likely be very good and the cost of living is tiny compared to Atlanta. It would enable Mauri and I to start a family without her working which would be nice (yes, I threw up in my mouth a little when I wrote that). On the other hand, having family so far away would certainly be tough as we would have no help.

Ideally we would like to stay in Atlanta, but if I do that I will probably change careers (not sure to what) and do the CNN thing for fun on the side. Financially it would be tougher as 6 figure jobs do not grow on trees and most likely I would need to go back to school too.

Who knows... there is a lot to think about. Hopefully after some prayer, the answer will come.

We are headed to the lake tonight before continuing to Tallahassee tomorrow for the FSU-BC game. After the game we go to the beach for a week. The day after I get back is the interview.

Needless to say, there will be some big decisions to be made over the weeks ahead.

I will keep you posted.
