moving on...

So, y'day was my last day at the station. It was bittersweet. I met and worked with so many people there that are so talented and taught me so much. On the other hand I never felt like my style and talents were used or appreciated.

My last weathercasts were at midday and I was pretty pleased with them. I guess you could say I left it all at the chroma wall?!? :-) Here it is so judge for yourself...



After midday I went and talked to the HR dude before saying good bye to everyone. The HR guy was so goofy about stuff. He never would say why they weren't keeping me. I did touch on the fact that I was the only guy left and was the most scientific of the people as a possible reason. He 'assured' me that it was not because I do not wear a skirt, but that even if it was he could not say! It was funny though to see him squirm. :-)

Several of the folks downstairs got me a cake and a card. It was very nice and thoughtful. As I said, I will miss them all. I hope if I get to stay in town that we will continue to hang out. My final work blog entry is here.

After leaving work around 3:30 I headed home to get ready for the Braves game last night. Mauri was getting her hair 'did' so it was me, Jake (a production guy from work), the midday anchor, Helen Neill, and her husband, Chris. Although the Braves lost we had a great time and several beers too. :-)



Now, onto the next phase of my career....

Today was my meeting with the big wigs at CNN. I met with the head talent guy, the news director, the head of science and technology, and it seems like a bazillion other people who I can not remember already.

I came away very encouraged. It seems like if history repeats itself then I should get lots of freelance opportunities on CNN, Headline News, Airport Network, CNN Int'l, and of course their internet spots too. I do not know how much that might be or how much $$$, but I am certainly more encouraged than I was y'day... so we will see! :-) The only down side is the head of news there apparently likes my old boss, Dodie. If he talks to her then I am sunk. I would have to hope that everyone else he talks to will love me, but she HATES me. She bad mouthed me to the Gannett sister station in Atlanta a few years back. Lets hope that burned bridge does not leave me stranded!

Just to be in their domestic newsroom was very intimidating. It was so crazy and big! WGCL felt the same way at first so I know the speed and size will shrink with experience... I hope! :-)

On a side note... I had a feeler for interest in a job in TULSA again! They were the same place that asked first for my last job hunt. The job was for a chief making well over 6 figures. I told them to consider me, but it would take a lot to get Mauri (and me) out to Tulsa! For those that do not know, Mauri said she would follow me anywhere but Tulsa and Detroit back when we were engaged. :-)

We are off to the lake tonight and will return Monday. I am excited to do some fishing and visiting with the in-laws.
